Bin vs Yibugele, Ming vs Seo, Kawana vs Song Fight Picks – Road to UFC 3 – Shanghai Quarterfinals 2 – May 18, 2024

Bin Xie vs Yibugele

  • Bin Xie
  • Age: 26
  • Pro Record: 11-4
  • UFC Record: 0-2
  • Key Wins: Submitted a well rounded 5-1 fighter.
  • Striking: a little above average (55)

  • Age: 32
  • Pro Record: 22-11
  • Striking: a little above average (55)
  • Power: a little above average (55)
  • Wrestling: average (50)

Yibugele’s wrestling is close to a 55, but not quite there yet. I like Bin’s cardio. His tools could be as high as 60’s.

Chris’ Pick: Bin by decision.

What odds I think the favorite should be at: Bin -175

Ming Shi vs Ye Dam Seo

  • Ming Shi
  • Age: 29
  • Pro Record: 14-5
  • Key Wins: Beat a 10-3 striker and a well rounded 14-3 fighter.
  • Striking: above average (60)

  • Age: 32
  • Pro Record: 7-3
  • Striking: a little above average (55)
  • Power: a little above average (55)
  • Grappling: above average (60)

Seo clearly lost to Josefine Knutsson. But then again, she did out perform the market as Knutsson closed as a -1300 favorite. Knutsson won, but not a total blow out. Seo did go 3 rounds to a decision.

Chris’ Pick: Ming by decision.

What odds I think the favorite should be: Ming -200

Masuto Kawana vs Young Jae Song

  • Masuto Kawana
  • Age: 29
  • Pro Record: 9-3
  • Key Wins: Split decision loss to a 10-8 wrestler.
  • Key Wins: Knocked out a well rounded 8-2 fighter. Beat a 5-1 grappler.
  • Striking: average (50)
  • Power: below average (40)
  • Wrestling: a little above average (55)
  • Young Jae Song
  • Age: NA
  • Pro Record: 6-0-1
  • Key Wins: Knocked out a 5-2 striker.
  • Striking: above average (60)
  • Power: above average (60)
  • Wrestling: above average (60)

I watched Kawana against a 12-8 striker, who’s striking couldn’t have been better than a 50 and strikes were close to equal. Kawana will have no chance if he can’t get Song on the ground.

Chris’ Pick: Song by 1st round knockout.

What odds I think the favorite should be at: Song -300

Priya Sharma vs Huaxiang Dong

  • Priya Sharma
  • Age: 32
  • Pro Record: 5-1
  • Key Wins: Beat a 4-1 striker.
  • Striking: a little above average (55)
  • Power: a little above average (55)
  • Wrestling: a little above average (55)
  • Huaxiang Dong
  • Age: 25
  • Pro Record: 11-2
  • Key Wins: Beat Feier Huang.
  • Striking: a little above average (55)
  • Power: fringe average (45)
  • Grappling: above average (60)

Sharma’s take down defense was a bit better than I thought it would be.

Chris’ Pick: Huaxiang by split decision.

What odds I think the favorite should be at: Huaxiang -125

Cong Wang vs Paula Luna

  • Cong Wang
  • Age: 31
  • Pro Record: 4-0
  • Key Wins: Beat Wu Yanan and a well rounded 3-1 fighter.
  • Striking: above average (60)
  • Power: above average (60)
  • Wrestling: above average (60)
  • Paula Luna
  • Age: 2
  • Pro Record: 5-2
  • Key Losses: Lost to a 4-3 wrestler.
  • Key Wins: Split decision over an 0-1 fighter.
  • Striking: a little above average (55)
  • Power: a little above average (55)
  • Wrestling: fringe average (45)

I watched Luna get mauled by a 6-0 wrestler. Luna didn’t even get close to getting back up before it was over. And just last year she lost to another 4-3 wrestler. Cong looked good against UFC vet Yanan Wu, was impressed she had the cardio to stuff so many Yanan take down attempts.

Chris’ Pick: Cong by 1st round ground and pound TKO.

What odds I think the favorite should be: Cong -325
