Omargadzhiev vs Silva, Long vs Quinonez, Basharat vs Kahlon Fight Picks – Contender Series – October 26, 2021

Gadzhi Omargadzhiev vs Jansey Silva

  • Gadzhi Omargadzhiev
  • Age: 28
  • Pro Record: 12-0
  • Key Wins: Knocked out a well rounded 4-1 fighter. Beat a well rounded 7-0 fighter. Split decision over a well rounded 4-0 fighter.
  • Tools: Omargadzhiev has striking that’s a little above average (55) and above average wrestling (60).
  • Jansey Silva
  • Age: 26
  • Pro Record: 7-1
  • Key Wins: Knocked out a 6-2 striker and a well rounded 7-2-1 fighter.
  • Tools: Silva has striking that’s a little above average (55) and average wrestling (50).

If you watch some of Silva’s fights, it would appear that he has pretty good wrestling. But you have to look at the competition and the level of wrestling they had. Based on that, I have Silva’s wrestling as a 50 and that will be a problem with Omargadzhiev having legit 60 wrestling.

Chris’ Pick: Omargadzhiev by decision.

Long Xiao vs Cristian Quinonez

  • Long Xiao
  • Age: 23
  • Pro Record: 16-6
  • Key Wins: Submitted a 5-0 striker. Beat a well rounded 5-1 fighter and a 5-1 grappler.
  • Tools: Long has average striking paired with below average power (50-40). He also has average grappling (50).
  • Cristian Quinonez
  • Age: 25
  • Pro Record: 15-3
  • Key Wins: Knocked out a 6-1 grappler, a well rounded 9-2 fighter, a 9-0 striker, and a 13-1 grappler. Split decision over an 11-4 grappler.
  • Tools: Quinonez has above average striking (60) and above average wrestling (60).

Not much film out there on Long, but the odds of him having the tools to beat Quinonez is pretty slim. Quinonez is one of the better prospects who’s been on the contender. Well rounded 60 tools all the way around. I see no way Long takes Quinonez down. And Quinonez will have a monster power advantage on the feet.

Chris’ Pick: Quinonez by 1st round knockout.

Javid Basharat vs Oron Kahlon

  • Javid Basharat
  • Age: 26
  • Pro Record: 10-0
  • Key Wins: Knocked out a 5-0 grappler. Submitted an 11-1 grappler.
  • Tools: Basharat has average striking (50) and grappling that’s a little above average (55).
  • Oron Kahlon
  • Age: 40
  • Pro Record: 12-0
  • Key Wins: Knocked out a well rounded 6-2 fighter.
  • Tools: Kahlon has average wrestling (50) and grappling that’s a little above average (55).

I have both guys graded identically. Both are undefeated. But Basharat has beat better competition and is 14 years younger. Coin flip fight though.

Chris’ Pick: Basharat by split decision.

Qihui Yan vs Karine Silva

  • Qihui Yan
  • Age: 25
  • Pro Record: 9-4
  • Key Wins: Submitted Na Liang. Knocked out a 5-2 striker. Beat a 9-3 grappler.
  • Tools: Qihui has striking that’s a little above average (55). She also has above average grappling (60).
  • Karine Silva
  • Age: 27
  • Pro Record: 13-4
  • Key Wins: Submitted a well rounded 7-2 fighter and a well rounded 8-1 fighter.
  • Tools: Silva has above average striking (60) and grappling that’s a little above average (55).

This is going to be a really good fight. Silva is unique for 125 lbs as she has 13 wins and 13 finishes. But if she has any weakness, it’s losing to higher level grapplers. And Qihui has a win over UFC fighter Na on her resume. Could be a close fight, Qihui could have history repeat itself, catch Silva in a submission, but the most likely outcome is that the fight is on the feet long enough for Silva to get the KO

Chris’ Pick: Silva by 2nd round knockout.

Manuel Torres vs Kolton Englund

  • Manuel Torres
  • Age: 26
  • Pro Record: 11-2
  • Key Losses: Submitted by a well rounded 7-6 fighter.
  • Key Wins: Submitted a well rounded 14-5 fighter and a 12-2 striker. Split decision over a 5-2 striker.
  • Tools: Torres has average striking (50) and average grappling (50).
  • Kolton Englund
  • Age: 29
  • Pro Record: 9-3
  • Key Losses: Knocked out by a 1-1 striker.
  • Key Wins: Knocked out a 7-2 grappler. Beat a well rounded 4-1 fighter.
  • Tools: Englund has average striking (50) and fringe average wrestling (50).

It’s very possible that Englund’s striking could be a 55. And with Torres, I couldn’t find any film on his recent fights. On paper, I see average 50 tools. It looks to me like a close fight.

Chris’ Pick: Englund by split decision.

Olivier Murad vs Xie Bin

  • Olivier Murad
  • Age: 27
  • Pro Record: 4-0
  • Key Wins: Beat a 5-1 striker.
  • Tools: Murad has striking that’s a little above average (55) and average grappling (50).
  • Xie Bin
  • Age: 23
  • Pro Record: 8-2
  • Key Wins: Submitted a well rounded 5-1 fighter.
  • Tools: Xie has average striking (50) and grappling that’s a little above average (55).

Murad’s wrestling and grappling wasn’t what I thought it would be. I thought his wrestling was a 55 on paper, but after watching him it’s closer to an average 50. However I am confident that Murad’s striking is a 55. Xie might take Murad down a couple times, but I think Murad will get back up and out strike Xie.

Chris’ Pick: Murad by 2nd round knockout.
