Soriano vs Pickett, Shahbazyan vs Weaver, Goldy vs Robbins Fight Picks

-Punahele Soriano: Soriano is a very good prospect. Probably the best prospect on the card. 26 years old. 5-0. Has plus striking and average grappling. And he’s already beaten two fighters that I think are better than Jamie Pickett. Like, Pickett is probably a step down for Soriano. Pickett is 30 years old. 7-3 pro record. Got submitted by Charles Byrd in the 1st season of the Contender Series. Pickett has average striking and that’s about it. Soriano will knock Pickett out in the 1st round.

-Leon Shahbazyan: This fight is really all about how good Shahbazyan can look. Opponent Brok Weaver is not a prospect. 12-4 record. 27 years old. Is well rounded, but all the tools are below average. His last win over a 7-2 fighter was the best of his career, but then his 2 fights before that were split decision wins, barely beating poor competition. Shahbazyan is 23 years old. 7-1 pro record. Has above average grappling which will likely develop into a plus tool. I think this fight is over quick. 1st round submission win.

-Hannah Goldy: I’m going to go out on a limb and pick the fighter with only 1 pro fight. Because in that 1 pro fight, Goldy beat Gillian Robertson who has a 3-1 UFC record. Goldy had enough take down defense and grappling to keep the fight on the feet and out strike Robertson for the decision win. Kali Robbins is more of a known commodity. 34 years old. 6-2 pro record. Above average grappling. But I just think that if Goldy was able to handle Robertson’s grappling, she’ll be able to handle Robbins too. Goldy by decision.

-Brendan Loughnane: Loughnane gets his shot to get back into the UFC. He got a late notice fight, losing to Mike Wilkinson back in 2012 and wasn’t brought back. Since then Loughnane has been developing, lost to elite prospect Tom Duquesnoy by a close split decision, rematched Wilkinson, knocked him out in the first round, lost a close split decision to wrestler Pat Healy, then rebounded by knocking out a quality top prospect. Loughnane now has a 16-3 pro record. Has above average striking. 29 years old. He takes on Bill Algeo. Record is 11-3. 29 years old. Algeo is well rounded, but his best tool is his grappling that I’d grade as average. After fighting guys like Duquesnoy and Healy, Loughnane will have no problem keeping the fight on the feet and is going to knock out Algeo in the 1st round.

-Alton Meeks: Not much to go on in this fight, due to Meeks only having 1 pro fight, so this pick is mostly on projection. The 1 win Meeks has is a submission in 1 minute. And he’s 25 years old. Yorgan de Castro is 3-0. 2 KOs, 1 decision. 32 years old. De Castro fights at 205 lbs sometimes but this fight is taking place at heavyweight. Meeks will be bigger and I think he’s got to be really good for the UFC to give him a shot with only 1 pro fight. Meeks by 2nd round submission.
